Subang District Head Arrested on Graft Charges
Jakarta. The district head of Subang, West Java, and seven others were caught red-handed while receiving a bribe on Tuesday (13/02), the national antigraft agency confirmed on Wednesday.
Eight people were taken to Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) headquarters in Jakarta for further investigation, KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said, as quoted by state news agency Antara.
They must be arraigned within 24 hours of their arrest.
"Eight people were arrested, including the district head of Subang," Febri said.
The official, Imas Aryumningsih, was apprehended along with civil servants, a businessman and a courier who brought hundreds of millions of rupiah, Febri added.
"The hundreds of millions of rupiah [were part] of billions [they] agreed on," Febri said.
Imas replaced Ojang Sohandi as district head, after he was arrested in 2016 for bribing antigraft prosecutors. She was Ojang's deputy at the time. Ojang is now serving eight years in jail for corruption and money laundering.
Imas is set to compete in this year's regional elections with her running mate Sutarno, supported by the Golkar Party and the National Awakening Party (PKB).
