Telkom Kicks Off Indonesia's Largest Esports Competition

Indonesian fans of electronic sports, or esports, will rejoice about the news that Telkom will present the IndiHome eSports League from this month until the end of next year.
The tournament, hosted on the IndiHome Triple Play Service, will be Indonesia's largest esports event ever.
"The IndiHome eSports League will be held simultaneously throughout Indonesia. The league will continue for the next two years and will involve thousands of teams competing for a total prize pool of Rp 1 billion [$72,700]," Telkom deputy marketing manager Jemy Confido said during the start of the league in Jakarta on Feb. 28.
"Not only that, Telkom will also provide special data packages and strengthen connections through our fiber-optic network so the eSports game scene will be stable and responsive, with minimum lag," he added.
The league will take place over four seasons with a unique game for each season.
"Season 1, which will take place between March and May 2018, Vainglory will be the main feature," Jemy said, referring to a multiplayer online battle arena game developed and published by Super Evil Megacorp.
The tournament is organized by IndiHome, in collaboration with MD Media.
"The big challenge of esports is changing the negative perception that video games have always had. Through this league, we hope esports competitions will foster creative value, train agility and develop a competitive spirit, while building teamwork with good sportsmanship," MD media director Syaifudin said.
In addition to co-organizing the IndiHome eSports League, MD Media will also present Indonesia's largest esports stadium, which will be equipped with state-of-the-art computers and network connections to enable participants to compete without interference.
"The esports stadium will include training facilities supported by professional Indonesian gamers with international achievements. The stadium will be a place where people can not only play, but also train to become professional gamers," Syaifudin said.
Facilities will include dormitories, sports facilities, coaching and clinics to support players during training.
The MDM eSports Academy not only facilitates players, but also caters to those who want to work in the esports industry as casters, video producers and streamers, while providing a space where brands and sponsors can meet.
The multi-billion-dollar esports industry creates new avenues for young gamers to hone their skills and potentially win big in thousands of competitions worldwide.
