Jakarta. Indonesia has been drawn into the same group as defending champions India for the men’s badminton championship, the Thomas Cup, to be held in the Chinese city of Chengdu next month.

India secured a major upset victory over Indonesia in the 2022 final to clinch their first-ever Thomas Cup title and prevent the 14-time champions from securing back-to-back victories.

During the drawing in Chengdu on Friday, both countries were joined by Thailand and England in Group C.

According to the Badminton World Federation, hosts China, the second most successful team with 10 titles, will face challenges from Korea, Canada, and Australia in Group A.

Group B comprises Japan, Taiwan, Germany, and the Czech Republic.

Denmark has been drawn alongside Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Algeria in Group D.

The Thomas Cup will be held concurrently with the women’s group championship, the Uber Cup.

Indonesia, whose sole Uber Cup crown came in 1996, has been placed in Group C with Japan, Hong Kong, and Uganda.

China, record holders with 15 titles, will seek to avoid early surprises from continental champions India, with whom they have been grouped, according to BWF reports. Canada and Singapore complete Group A.

Group B will feature Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Australia.

Uber Cup defending champions Korea, who are vying for their third title, have been placed in Group D with Denmark, three-time former champions USA, and Mexico.
