Jakarta. Rescue workers are searching for three Chinese nationals who went missing while diving near Sangiang Island in Banten on Monday morning.
The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) said the three men – Tan Xuz Tao, Wan Bzng Yang and Tian Yu – went diving with three others near the island in the Sunda Strait between Java and Sumatra.
"The victims were on holiday and participated in a group diving excursion around Sangiang Island. There were seven of them, but only six went diving, while one was snorkeling," Basarnas said in a statement on Monday.
Ten divers, part of a joint team comprising members of Basarnas, National Police and Indonesian Navy, have been deployed to search for the missing men. Five ships belonging to the Navy and Basarnas are also combing the area.
"We are conducting a joint search and have deployed the ships K.A.L. Tamposo, K.A.L. Badak and K.A.L. Sangiang, belonging to Banten Naval Base; K.N. Drupada belonging to Basarnas; and R.I.B. KPP Banten to comb the waters off Sangiang Island, while also using a helicopter to search from the air," said Zainal Arifin, head of the Banten chapter of Basarnas.
