Three Crocodiles Starving to Death in Bengkulu Wildlife Park
Jakarta. Three crocodiles in a wildlife park in Bengkulu are close to dying due to malnourishment.
The Bengkulu city administration closed the facility, known as the Youth Wildlife Park, last month but the three reptiles have yet to be relocated, unlike the other animals, which were moved to a wildlife park in Bali.
However, now the Bengkulu Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) has taken responsibility to feed the crocodiles.
"We will take responsibility, until another agency [is ready to take over]. We have offered [the crocodiles] to several wildlife parks in the country, but none have accepted them, including the one in Lampung," Mahfud, head of administration at the Bengkulu BKSDA, said on Wednesday (01/02).
He said there is a local resident who expressed a willingness to take care of the crocodiles but the agency is still reviewing the individual.
The agency also guarantees that the crocodiles will be fed daily.
The Bengkulu city administration closed the wildlife park as it was running at a loss due to a lack of visitors.
This decision was in part caused by the operational cost allocation from the province's regional budget, which continues to decrease every year.
