Vice President Hails Display of Religious Tolerance during Eid al-Adha

Jakarta. Vice President Ma’ruf Amin praised non-Muslim communities for participating in Eid al-Adha celebrations by donating sacrificial animals on Monday.
He performed the Eid prayer at the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta, where he was informed that the nearby Katedral Church and other community groups such as Indonesians of Chinese descent had donated live cattle to the mosque.
"It appears that the Feast of the Sacrifice doesn’t involve Muslims only. The Imam just told me that many non-Muslim communities also contributed live cattle in a display of social solidarity,” Ma’ruf said at the Istiqlal Mosque.
“We are grateful that social solidarity still finds its place in this nation. We have to preserve and enhance this tradition," he added.
Ma’ruf himself donated a 1.1-ton cow to the mosque and also handed another on behalf of President Joko Widodo, who celebrated Eid in Semarang, Central Java.
Their donations were received by Mosque Imam Nasaruddin Umar.
