Jakarta. A 10-year-old boy died after eating cyanide-laced satay which was allegedly intended for another person in a murder plot that goes horribly wrong in Yogyakarta, police said on Monday.

A woman has been arrested for allegedly lacing satay and cyanide and ordering a motorcycle taxi to deliver it to the target -- an ex-boy friend, according to police.

Since the intended recipient rejected the food package, the deliveryman brought it home in Sewon, Bantul district, and let his wife and son eat it on April 25, Bantul Police Chief Adjunct Comr. Wachyu Tri Budi Sulistiyono said, as quoted by local news website Detik.

The two were rushed to Bantul Municipal Hospital for food poisoning but the son died soon after.

The suspect is identified as Nani Aprilliani, 25, a beauty salon worker from Majalengka, West Java, who lives in Yogyakarta.

She was arrested at her rented home in Bantul on April 30, Wachyu said.

“She bought the cyanide from an online store on March 28,” the officer said without going into details.

Nani allegedly intended to kill her ex-boy friend identified only as Tomy after he married another woman, Yogyakarta Police Criminal Division Director Chief Comr. Burkan Rudy Satria said in a news conference.

“The plot was motivated by revenge. She was angered by the fact that his ex-boy friend married another woman,” Burkan said.

The deliveryman named Bandiman was picked randomly by Nani to send the food package, which mentioned the sender as Mr. Hamid, and was paid Rp 30,000.

Upon arriving at the destination, Bandiman failed to meet Tomy but he called him by phone. Tommy refused to accept the food, saying he didn't know Mr. Hamid, Burkan said.

Bandiman took the package home because it didn't carry a return address.

Nani is charged for premeditated murder and she could face death sentence by the firing squad if convicted.
