Young Volunteers KitaSatu Hands Out Chocolates to Cool Tensions After Election
APRIL 18, 2019
Jakarta. After the final votes were cast on the 2019 general election on Wednesday, all that is left to do is to wait for a final tally.
The election was far from perfect. The nation was divided between the two candidates, sparking heated debates between ardent supporters, but overall it ran smoothly without any major hitches.
Doing what they can to cool tensions after the elections, young volunteers in the KitaSatu movement handed out chocolate to passersby in Patung Kuta, Central Jakarta, on Thursday.
"We wanted to hand out chocolates as a 'thank you' to the people that have patiently participated in yesterday's election," said Andika, KitaSatu’s head of committee.
Andika hopes that the Indonesian youth can reunite and see pass the party colors and who they voted for in the election.
"With the 'Ayo Baikan Dong' ['Let’s Make Up'] movement, we hope that the Indonesian people, especially the youth, can reunite and continue building this nation together," Andika said.
"This chocolate represents our love and gratitude for the youth of this country. The election has passed. Whoever the leader is, he is for the best of the country. Let's stop the animosity, the suspicions and stop the hoaxes because we want to reunite the nation. We're thankful that our chocolates were well received, and people promised that they will help maintain harmony in the country," Andika said in closing.
