Zulkifli Hasan Pledges to Achieve Food Self-Sufficiency in New Role as Chief Food Affairs Minister

Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto has officially appointed 53 ministers and ministerial-level officials in his newly formed cabinet. Among them is the National Mandate Party (PAN) Chairman Zulkifli Hasan, also known as Zulhas, who leads the newly established Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs.
In a statement following the handover ceremony at the Trade Ministry in Jakarta on Monday, the former Trade Minister under ex-President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo outlined the various ministries and agencies that will fall under his coordination. These include the Agriculture Ministry, the Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry (KKP), the Forestry Ministry, and the Environment Ministry.
Additionally, the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs will also oversee other food-related organizations, such as the Logistics Agency (Bulog), the National Food Agency (Bapanas), and the Quarantine Agency.
“I have been entrusted by President Prabowo, and it is clear that the mission of the Red-and-White Cabinet is to assist in coordinating food affairs. The task is straightforward: within the next five years, we must achieve food self-sufficiency. This mission is explicit. Additionally, we must also ensure energy self-sufficiency,” he said.
Zulhas also addressed the location of the Coordinating Ministry's office, admitting that he has not yet finalized where he will be based. Speculation suggests he may share office space with other ministries in Jakarta or set up in the new Capital City, Nusantara (IKN).
“We will see. Once my office is organized, I will invite everyone. The goal is clear: we must achieve self-sufficiency within five years,” he concluded.
The Red-and-White cabinet consists of seven coordinating ministers, 41 ministers, the attorney general, the head of the State Intelligence Agency, the cabinet secretary, the presidential chief of staff, and the head of the Presidential Communication Bureau.
In addition to Zulkifli Hasan's role as Chief Food Security Minister, the cabinet also includes Budi Gunawan as Chief Security Affairs Minister, Yusril Ihza Mahendra as Chief Human Rights Minister, Airlangga Hartarto as Chief Economic Affairs Minister, Pratikno as Chief Human Development and Cultural Affairs Minister, Muhaimin Iskandar as Chief People’s Empowerment Minister, and Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono as Chief Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister.
