AABS Encourages South-South Investment And Trade Cooperation
AACC2015, Jakarta - In the framework of the 60th Commemoration of the Asian-African Conference, Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) hosts the Asian African Business Forum (AABS) on April 21 and 22, 2015 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), which carrying the theme “Revitalization of Asia-Africa Partnership for Progress and Prosperity.”
In accordance with AABS main theme, this meeting is expected to encourage South-South cooperation, especially in trade and investment. On the occasion, KADIN will initiate the establishment of the Asia-Africa Business Council as an institution to monitor and follow up the implementation of AABS decisions. "We want a concrete follow-up for every conference decision, especially in business development sectors in Asia and Africa," said KADIN’s Vice Chairman for Associations Coordinator Noke Kiroyan, who also serves as the Chief Executive of AABS 2015, in a written statement, Monday (4/20).
Mr. Kiroyan explained, 700 people have registered to participate in AABS meeting. However, the organizers only set to 500 delegates from 45 countries in Asia and Africa. Participants consist of heads of businesses, governments and ambassadors. The discussion will focus on key sectors namely maritime, agribusiness, infrastructure, trade and investment.
According to the plan, AABS 2015 will officially be opened by President Joko Widodo. On this event, South African President, Jacob Zuma and Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi will deliver keynote speech. Another speakers who will also present are CEOs of Africa and Asia, such as Alibaba Group CEO Jack Ma, as well as CEO of Indonesia such as Franky O. Widjaja (Sinar Mas Group), Sri Dato Tahir (Mayapada Group), Hidayat Nyakman (Petrokimia Gresik) and Chairul Tanjung (Para Group).
Mr. Kiroyan stated that the meeting is very strategic for Indonesia to promote business and investment opportunities. "We expect investment will touch infrastructure and strategic industry and hopefully after this event, we can realize our decision," he said.
AABS 2015 is scheduled to be closed by the Coordinating Minister for Economy Affairs Sofyan A Djalil. This meeting will declare AABS Asia - Africa Business Council which will be represented by the leader of the delegation of each country. The meeting will proceed with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between KADIN and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT).
