Jakarta. Incumbent Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama remains the front-runner with a rising approval rating ahead of this month's Jakarta gubernatorial election, while a stagnant electability rating has placed contender Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono at the bottom, a survey showed on Wednesday (01/02).

The latest poll confirms the results of a similar survey released last month, following a string of polls late last year that showed Agus in the top spot with a steadily increasing electability rating, while a plummeting approval rating placed Ahok just ahead of the other contender, Anies Baswedan.

The electability rating of Ahok and running mate Djarot Saiful Hidayat now stands at 36.8 percent, according to that latest survey, carried out by Charta Politika on Jan. 17-24 among nearly 800 respondents.

A previous poll released by the Jakarta-based pollster in November showed that the incumbent pair had an approval rating of 28.9 percent, while a similar survey released by the Populi Center in late January showed them enjoying an approval rating of 36.7 percent.

"The electability rating of Ahok-Djarot has significantly increased," Charta Politika executive director Yunarto Wijaya told the media during the release of the survey results.

"Meanwhile Anies-Sandiaga [Uno] has started to overtake Agus-Sylviana [Murni]," he said.

The survey, which had a 3.5 percent margin of error, shows the approval rating of Anies-Sandiaga at 27 percent, and that of Agus-Sylviana at 25.9 percent.

"But the Jakarta gubernatorial election is likely to take place over two rounds," Yunarto added, pointing out that there has yet to be a candidate that has an electability rating of more than 50 percent, while 10 percent of survey respondents remain undecided.

The Charta Politika poll carried out in mid-November shows the approval rating of Agus at 29.5 percent, followed by Ahok and Anies at 28.9 percent and 26.7 percent, respectively.

Another survey released by Poltracking in the same month showed Agus ahead with an electability rating of 27.9 percent, followed by Ahok and Anies at 22 percent and 20.4 percent, respectively.
