Police Suspect 3 Men Killed Drinking Bootleg Alcohol in West Java
Jakarta. Three men have died and another is fighting for his life after drinking what police believe was bootleg liquor on New Year’s Eve.
The four men — Firman Ubaidilah, Zarkasih, Ahmad Zakaria and Fery Farhany — all aged 20 were found unconscious by neighbors in an empty house in Depok, West Java, on January 31.
Neighbours rushed the four to Sentra Medika Hospital in Cimanggis, but three died enroute.
“Firman, Zakarsih, and Ahmad died on the way to the hospital. Fery is still unconscious this morning,” said Sen. Cmr. Ahmad Subarkah, chief of Depok Police.
Police found bottles of what they suspect was bootleg liquor, energy drink and soft drink when they returned to the house, he said.
Ahmad said: "We suspect that the four men were celebrating New Year’s Eve by drinking alcohol.”
Deaths from bootleg liquor are common in Indonesia. More than 20 people have died as a result of toxic mixtures in West Java alone in the past month.
