Prabowo: No More Junkets for Gerindra Lawmakers
Jakarta. The Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) does no longer allow its member of the House of Representatives to go on overseas trips, a lawmaker said on Thursday, citing orders from chief patron Prabowo Subianto.
Gerindra lawmaker Ahmad Riza Patria confirmed that a letter had been issued on Monday and that it was signed by Gerindra faction chief Ahmad Muzani and secretary Fary Djemi Francis.
Riza said that the letter was circulated on Prabowo's orders.
He denied however that the order was related the controversial trip made by House Deputy Speaker Fadli Zon, who is also from Gerindra.
Fadli went to US earlier this month on a trip with House Speaker Setya Novanto and others, making headlines when they appeared at a campaign event for US billionaire and presidential hopeful Donald Trump.
"Not really [because of that]. The letter is for a reminder, as there are new lawmakers in this period," Riza said.
Fadli and Setya have been summoned by the House's Ethics Council to explain their appearance at the Trump Tower.
