RI UNSC Non-Permanent Member Candidacy And Palestinian Independence
AACC2015, Jakarta - The Asian-African Conference Commemoration is not only to build support for Palestinian independence, but also to gain support for Indonesia to be a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in the period of 2019-2020.
According to Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ spokesman Arrmanatha Christiawan Nasir, support requests have been conveyed by the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi in various bilateral meetings. "We are confident for our candidacy to be a non-permanent member of the UNSC for 2019-2020. The Indonesian Foreign Minister has conveyed the interest to the countries that she regularly met," said Mr. Nasir at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Monday (4/20).
Meanwhile, the Asian and African countries must preserve the support for the Palestinian independence. Mr. Nasir admitted to gain the independence for Palestine is not easy, because there is only one Asian and African countries representative who has a veto and sit on the UN Security Council--People’s Republic of China.
Thus, through this Asian-African countries forum, Indonesia hopes the candidacy to be a non-permanent member of the UNSC can be accepted and the Palestinian independence support will be stronger.
He also explained the Asian-African Ministerial Meeting atmosphere is very conducive and friendly. "Many member states are supporting Indonesia’s host. They believe the Ten Principles of Bandung is still relevant in facing today's global challenges,” he said.
The participating countries also deliver programs that they have done in the context of South-South Cooperation. They also believed that the cooperation is very significant in supporting the development and facing political, economic, and security problems.
The ministers also discussed the New Asia Africa Strategic Partnership (NAASP) document and the establishment of the Asian-African center in Indonesia. (Photo: Amiriyandi, Translator: Filmon Warouw, Editor: Gusti Andry)
