Incumbent Rano Karno, Ex-Tangerang Mayor Wahidin Pass Administrative Test for Banten Election
Serang. Incumbent Tangerang mayor Rano Karno and former mayor Wahidin Halim have both passed the administrative test ahead of next year's Banten gubernatorial election, the electoral commission announced on Monday (24/10).
Rano, who assumed the post following the dismissal of Ratu Atut Chosiyah, will run in the election alongside United Development Party's (PPP) Embay Mulya Syarief, while Wahidin will team up with Atut's son and Golkar lawmaker Andika Hazrumy.
“The Banten Election Commission had received registration and documents comprising of candidacy and candidate requirements. After conducting verification, we officiate both pairs as governor and deputy governor candidates,” Banten Election Commission chairman Agus Supriatna said during the plenary meeting in Serang.
Following the announcement, Rano will officially take leave for around four months, in line with newly-revised regulations.
Rano and Embay are supported by PPP, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and the National Democrat Party (NasDem). Wahidin and Andika have been endorsed by Golkar, Democratic Party, the People's Conscience Party (Hanura), National Mandate Party (PAN), the Nation Awakening Party (PKB), Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra).
Banten is one of a 101 regions across Indonesia hosting simultaneous local elections in February.
