Jakarta. Police are preparing special security measures ahead of Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama's upcoming blasphemy trial.

The venue has been temporarily moved to the Central Jakarta Court premises in Jalan Gajah Mada.

"The police are still assessing the number of officers [to be deployed] and the threat level," Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono said on Tuesday (06/12).

Argo said maximum security measures will be in place during the trial, in case of demonstrations outside the court.

He also called on members of the public to trust the judges.

"Whatever the verdict is, it should be respected," he said.

The court has appointed a panel of five judges led by Dwiarso Budi Santiarto.

Ahok, who is charged with contravention of Article 156 on harassment and Article 156a on blasphemy under the Indonesian Criminal Code, can face up to five years in prison if convicted.
