Jokowi Inaugurates New KPU, Bawaslu Members
Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo inaugurated new members of the General Elections Commission, or KPU, and the Election Supervisory Agency, or Bawaslu, on Tuesday (11/04).
The newly appointed officials were selected for the 2017-22 term.
The president also inaugurated Saldi Isra as a Constitutional Court judge, following the discharge of Patrialis Akbar, who was arrested in a sting operation by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in January.
Vice President Jusuf Kalla and cabinet ministers have attended the inauguration ceremony at the State Palace in Central Jakarta.
On Monday, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung said the new commissioners will prepare the 2018 simultaneous regional elections.
"They are ready to start work," he said.
The new KPU commissioners are Ilham Saputra, Evi Novida Ginting Manik, Wahyu Setiawan, Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi, Hasyim Asy'ari, Arief Budiman and Viryan. The new Bawaslu executives are Ratna Dewi Petalolo, Mochammad Afifudin, Rahmat Bagja, Abhan and Fritz Edward Siregar.
