'Our Main Enemy Is Inequality' MPR Speaker Says in New Year's Eve Address
Jakarta. People's Consultative Assembly Speaker Zulkifli Hasan said Indonesians need to develop a stronger "sense of brotherhood" to face challenges in the new year.
"Let's welcome the new year with hope, optimism and good spirit. Let's unite as a nation and strengthen our sense of brotherhood to face challenges and competitors," Zulkifli said in Jakarta on Saturday (31/12).
He added that Indonesians also need to develop their skills and seek higher qualifications if they want to compete with the workforce from other countries.
"Our key strength is manpower," Zulkifli said.
According to him, the biggest challenge for Indonesia is socio-economic inequality.
"It's not the far right or far left that are dangerous here. Our main enemy is inequality," Zulkifli said.
The MPR speaker hoped that inequality could be overcome if Indonesians show more solidarity to each other.
"Social justice should be for all citizens, not just a few," he added.
