Political, Security Situation Has Cooled Down, Minister Says
Jakarta. Chief Security Minister Wiranto says the political and security situation in the country has improved since the police declared Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama a suspect in a blasphemy case earlier in the week.
"It is actually cooled down, because the police investigation meets the demands by protesters during the recent rally. It should cool down, as there is no reason to heat things up anymore," Wiranto said at the State Palace in Central Jakarta on Friday (18/11).
The minister said since the public expectation has been met, there are also no reasons for more protests.
"If protesters feel they are not satisfied, it has been clearly said that the government, especially the president, did not intervene in the legal decision. It has been done, proven. Therefore, there is no reason to heat things up," Wiranto said.
Regarding a proposal for President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo to also meet with Democratic Party chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono following Thursday's meeting with Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) chairman Prabowo Subianto, Wiranto said such a meeting was possible at any time.
"There is no need to meet only during a heated situation. When everything is calm, it is also okay to meet. Nobody is stopping them," Wiranto said.
