Improving the Quality and Competitiveness of Higher Education in Indonesia Telkom (IdREN)
Director of Enterprise and Business Service of PT Telkom Indonesia Tbk (Telkom) Dian Rachmawan and Secretary General of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education Republic of Indonesia Ainun Naim witnessed by Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education Mohamad Nasir signed the Memorandum Understanding of the "Cooperation of Provision of Telecommunication Facilities for Indonesian Research and Education Network (IdREN)" in the Rector Forum event entitled "Together Achieving Quality and Higher Education Competitiveness in the Digital Age" at the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education Office in Jakarta, Tuesday (19/12).
IdREN is a closed network (National Closed User) that is used for sharing research between universities with 3S (Single Network, Sharing and Collaboration, Sustainable Platform) initiative that serves as a research platform among universities and as a bridge between higher education institutions, government, industry, media and community to improve national competitiveness in the global arena.
The scope of this IdrEN development cooperation includes the provision of networks and data communications services, the provision of collocation data center services, the provision of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) consulting services, the provision of national IdREN backbone and interconnection with Global Research & Education Network, provision of operational technical support IdrEN , and other cooperation.
Dian Rachmawan expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education who has given Telkom an opportunity to realize the commitment in the development of the Indonesian education through the infrastructure of IdrEN. "IdREN is one platform to facilitate research and knowledge collaboration. This platform is also one of the efforts to improve the quality and competitiveness of Indonesian higher education in the digital era as it is today, "said Dian.
Dian Rachmawan added that in order to support the development of research and learning for national universities, IdrEN which can now be accessed through website and mobile apps, will continue to expand its connection with national and international research institutes as well as developing content. "Currently IdrEN is already connected to 79 national education institutions and 1 international research institution (Trans Euroasia Information Network) and will continue to evolve in the direction of other strategic institutions in the domestic and global sphere," added Dian.
IdrEN was initiated by Telkom with 5 (five) Indonesian Universities (UGM, UB, UI, ITS, and ITB) as a national hub campus to realize the needs of research collaboration network using the Pentahelix concept (involving the "Academy as a Conceptor "," Media as an Expander "," Government as Regulator "," Community as an Accelerator ", and" Business as an Enabler ".
Through the development of this platform, Telkom hopes to contribute to support the national education sector in enhancing the nation's competitiveness so as to respond to the challenges of globalization in the digital era and accelerate the achievement of the government's vision to make Indonesia as the Digital Energy of Asia by 2020.
