Jakarta. The London School of Economics and Political Science, or LSE, will host its first Asean Global Leadership Program – a week-long program for senior executives and professionals from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations – at its London campus in March next year.

In joint statement, the LSE and Jakarta-based management consulting firm SRW&Co., which organizes the annual Asean Global Leadership Program (AGLP), said next year's program will bring a group of senior leaders from the private and public sectors in Indonesia and Southeast Asia together for a week to discuss and reflect on leadership, entrepreneurship and innovation.

"We are particularly pleased to be collaborating with SRW&Co. for the first time to host the AGLP," said Adam Austerfield, director of global markets at the LSE.

"Myself and colleagues are frequent visitors to Asean countries, and the LSE has thousands of alumni across the region, so we understand first-hand the demands modern ventures face and, most importantly, what these demands pose to leaders in an age of constant and rapid change," he said in the statement.

Austerfield added that the LSE, as a renowned international education institution, will present program participants with strategic insights into leadership and strategy, global investment and management.

Speaking to the Jakarta Globe during a recent visit to Jakarta, he said the program will offer a mixture of LSE expertise and research-led discussions, or specific expertise by guest speakers in particular fields.

"It will offer a broad-range, very strong narrative about leadership and strategy in organizations," he said.

Austerfield said from the LSE's point of view, establishing a stronger presence in Indonesia and Southeast Asia is important as the country and the bloc are playing a bigger role in the global economy.

SRW&Co said in the statement that Asean is known as one of the sources of major growth in the global economy, as it is also increasingly interconnected with other economies including China, the United States, Australia and Europe, thus business leaders from the bloc are playing a significant role on the world stage.

"The AGLP with LSE is the 19th edition of our AGLP series since its inception in 2009. Working closely with our global business school partners, we have been raising the bar in both the design and delivery of our flagship program over the past 10 years," Daniel Wong, chairman and partner at SRW&Co, said in the statement.

"The fact that we were able to sustain the program over the past decade affirms recognition of the AGLP as a signature leadership development program in the Asean region. In collaboration with the LSE, we look forward to a successful run of the edition in March 2019."

SRW&Co said senior members of the LSE Faculty, among them emeritus professor Mick Cox and professor Saul Estrin, are looking forward to welcoming and working with the AGLP participants to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience. The program is set to offer high-caliber guest speakers and senior experts.

"This customized executive education program creates a high-impact platform for contemporary leaders. The opportunity to learn about, analyze and discuss best international practices in leadership, entrepreneurship and innovation across various sectors will be truly unique. Interaction and engagement in an intellectually rich format in and out of the classroom are key to this program, and together with substantial networking opportunities will form part of the journey to help advance senior colleagues from the Asean region as leaders in the 21st century," the LSE said in the joint statement.
