Mount Agung Eruption: TelkomGroup Improve Security of Telecommunication Infrastructure in Bali

PT Telkom Indonesia (Telkom) increased the security of TelkomGroup telecommunication infrastructure in Bali Province after an eruption which increased the status of Gunung Agung to Alert Level on Monday (27/11). The improvement is conducted to ensure the smoothness of telecommunication services of the community, in particular, to support the coordination of disaster management by the officers.

Telkom Network & IT Solutions Director Zulhelfi Abidin explained that TelkomGroup infrastructure and services are currently in normal condition. "As a mitigation measure, TelkomGroup has prepared a contingency plan for all telecommunications infrastructure and services under an impact scenario ranging from a radius of 12 km, 25 km, 50 km to 100 km from the site of Gunung Agung. In addition, as an effort to secure telecommunication infrastructure, TelkomGroup has alerted 33 Automatic Telephone Stores (STO) and 8 Optical Line Termination (OLT) sites up to a radius of 100 km from the eruption site of Gunung Agung. As for cellular infrastructure, there are 79 Base Transceiver Station (BTS) and 36 Telkomsel site, "said Zulhelfi.

"To meet the communications needs of affected communities, TelkomGroup also provides free communication facilities in refugee camps. We hope this facility can be utilized by the refugees to communicate with relatives and families, as well as facilities to get various information needed, especially related to the volcanic activity of Mount Agung, "continued Zulhelfi.

In Command Post Emergency Response Command in Karangasem and Klungkung, TelkomGroup provides BTS Combat Telkomsel, Access Point, and IndiHome service. Meanwhile, in the Post Site Monitor in Mount Agung Rendang Karangasem, the IndiHome and Astinet services is also available. At the Bali Police Disaster Contingency Posts at Antiga and Command Post Bangli, TelkomGroup set up a free telephone service to facilitate the coordination of disaster security officers.

IndiHome service is also available in 7 community refugee posts, including Tembok Post, Sidemen Post, Bondalem Post, Les Tejakula Post, Ulakan Manggis Post, Rendang Karangasem Post, and Sambirenteng Post. For location monitoring of telecommunication infrastructure and services, TelkomGroup also established Infrastructure and Services Control Command at STO Semarapura. Monitoring the entire infrastructure involves more than 170 nationally alert personnel in Jakarta, Surabaya and also on-site personnel at STO Semarapura. "A total of more than 170 personnel are specially prepared to maintain telecommunications services, both fixed broadband and cellular so that the constant service of community communication can be monitored," said Zulhelfi.

With the intensive monitoring and security of infrastructure, TelkomGroup hopes to facilitate the coordination of the parties and officials concerned to minimize the impact of disasters and meet the communication needs of local communities affected by the eruption of Mount Agung.
