Sinar Mas Land's Smart City Steals Spotlight at Global Innovation Forum
Jakarta. Sinar Mas Land, the holding company of Indonesian conglomerate Sinar Mas, stole the spotlight at the Tangerang Selatan Global Innovation Forum on Friday (23/09) with its latest high-tech smart city development BSD City, impressing delegates from 50 countries.
"The company has come up with a series of innovations for BSD City to turn it into a real smart city, including a special app that will help BSD residents in their day-to-day activities," the company said in a statement.
Sinar Mas Land, listed under the name Bumi Serpong Damai, is developing an integrated smart digital city where information technology startups can benefit from a high-speed internet connection. Solar panel charging stations will be available all throughout the area, as well as a fleet of free electric bikes for commuters.
The company has allocated around Rp 300 billion ($23 million) to the project.
The construction of the digital hub, dubbed as the Indonesian Silicon Valley, will begin next year on a 25.86-hectare site, and is expected to complete in 2020.
The 2016 Tangerang Selatan Global Innovation Forum was organized by the World Technopolis Association, Unesco, South Tangerang City and the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education.
The event offered opportunities for research professionals, policymakers and players in the high-tech industry to swap knowledge and experience.
