Al-Azhar Alumni Association Donates Covid-19 Care Packages to Retired Teachers
Jakarta. Al-Azhar Islamic School Alumni Association, or ASIA, have rolled out Covid-19 care packages to provide support for retired teachers and the school community, including guards and janitors.
The donation was part of the ASIA Peduli ('ASIA Cares') event held at the ASIA Board Secretariat in Jakarta on Saturday.
"ASIA Peduli proves Al Azhar alumni's contribution to the welfare of those within the school community during the Covid-19 pandemic," ASIA chairman Ahmad Riza Patria said in a written statement.
According to Riza, the donation targets the school's retired teachers, security guards, parking attendants, janitors, and merchants. They each receive a care package worth of Rp 300,000 ($21.28), as well as hand sanitizers and vitamins to ward off the virus. Retired teachers also receive financial aid of Rp 1 million in cash.
"The donation and care packages come from sponsors and donors of our school alumni. Hopefully, ASIA Peduli can help ease the burden off the recipients in this pandemic," the Jakarta deputy governor said.
At the ASIA Peduli event, the alumni association teamed up with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) for blood donation. ASIA Peduli also held a fun bike for the school's alumni in limited capacity. The event implemented strict health protocols to prevent Covid-19 transmission.
