Jakarta. Chandra Asri Group is trying to raise environmental awareness with its Indonesia Asri campaign.

As part of the campaign, the chemical and infrastructure solutions company held the “Aksi Beralih 2.0, Buka Bersama Sambil Pilah Pilih” event in Jakarta. This break-fasting event had the overarching goal of nurturing the love for the planet.

Chandra Asri Group’s corporate communications head Chrysanthi Tarigan said that she hoped this would encourage people in the Greater Jakarta area to save the planet together.

“Indonesia Asri campaign educates the people to become more aware of sustainable environment,” Chrysanthi said.

Indonesia still needs to work on its waste problem. This calls for better waste management in the country, starting with waste sorting. Proper waste sorting can bring good economic benefits, namely circular economy. During the talk show session, Rebricks Indonesia also shared their insights. Rebricks Indonesia is a company that recycles single-use plastic into building materials: pavers, hollow blocks, and ventilation blocks.

“Single-use plastic is the most commonly found plastic waste. We can find them in rivers, seas, and landfills So Rebrick Indonesia turns something that does not have value into a valuable product. This is where Rebricks plays its role,” Rebricks Indonesia’s chief executive officer Novita Tan said.

Chandra Asri Group’s circular economy and partnership section manager Nicko Setyabudi also commented: “[In a circular economy,] no waste has no value. It has value. It can lead to the next process: either for recycling or upcycling.”

Nicko invited people to help tackle the waste problem.

According to Nicko, waste management is not the sole responsibility of the government. But all hands must be on deck, be it the private sector, academia, non-government organizations (NGOs), and individuals.

"The simplest way is how we are responsible for our waste. This includes making sure that we dispose of waste in the right place. We sort the waste from households to make the next process easier and support the target of realizing a Beautiful Indonesia," Nicko said.

Elang Djoditama, a representative from “Sobat Asri”, called on the young generation to also partake in addressing the waste problem in Indonesia.

"For the younger generation, continue to fight and protect our environment and continue to do things that can support the sustainability and beauty of our environment, and don't forget to join Indonesia Asri for a more beautiful Indonesia," Elang said.
