Jakarta. Chandra Asri Pacific -- better known as Chandra Asri Group -- recently took part in the 2024 Jakarta Running Festival to promote waste management.

The leading provider of energy, chemicals, and infrastructure solutions in Southeast Asia taught the running event’s participants how to better manage their plastic waste. This waste management campaign took place throughout the festival on Oct. 10-13.

According to Chandra Asri Group’s corporate communications head Chrysanthi Tarigan, the company -- as Indonesia’s growth partner -- intends to encourage positive changes in the people, including through efforts to create a cleaner and more sustainable environment. Chandra Asri Group hopes that the waste management campaign at the 2024 Jakarta Running Festival can encourage people to work together towards a greener and healthier future that can be passed on to the coming generations.

“As we promote ‘Indonesia Asri’ ['Beautiful Indonesia’], we invite runners and participants of the 2024 Jakarta Running Festival to actively sort their trash as part of the circular economy-based waste management. This is in line with the sportsmanship and sustainability spirit of this event,” Chrysanthi said.

Chandra Asri Group had installed ten bins that let participants sort their waste in the F&B area. The bins were split into four categories: plastic, paper, organic, and others. This aligned with the festival’s eco-friendly concept as it let people learn how to properly sort their waste, according to Chrysanthi.

Clean Operations

On Oct. 12-13, Chandra Asri Group also held a cleanup operation involving 35 volunteers from the general public and its employees. These volunteers did not only campaign the importance of waste management, but they also cleaned up the trash around the expo area.

Chandra Asri Group has held five of these similar cleanup operations, including at FX Jakarta’s car-free day area, Kota Tua Jakarta, and the 2023 Jakarta Marathon. All these cleanup activities have helped manage 130 kilograms of waste and prevent them from filling the landfills.

"Through the participation of Chandra Asri Group and Indonesia Asri, we hope that the people who attend can become agents of change in maintaining environmental cleanliness, in line with the sustainability pillar of the 2024 Jakarta Running Festival. As we embrace #LangkahBersama (‘Move Together') and run at the 2024 Jakarta Running Festival, let’s work together to realize ‘Indonesia Asri’,” Chrysanthi said.
