Jakarta. The Cirebon government recently vowed to support the employment social security BPJS Ketenagakerjaan program.

According to Cirebon’s regional government assistant Mochamad Syafrudin, the regency will focus on protecting the people in the neighborhood and community units (RT/RW) this year.

"There will be a policy that stipulates that the village funds can be used to pay BPJS Ketenagakerjaan premium,” Syafrudin said at a recent BPJS Ketenagakerjaan event.

There are 265,000 workers protected by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan in the Cirebon regency. This makes up 33 percent of the total workers in Cirebon, which amount to 801,000 people. For this reason, Syafrudin gave his support to BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s Sertakan campaign, which encourages people to help the informal workers around them.

The event also saw BPJS Ketenagakerjaan handing over some assistance to 5 orphanages, who got Rp 2 million each. BPJS Ketenagakerjaan also gave 50 assistance packages to orphans. As well as 100 staple food packages and cash assistance worth Rp 20 million to the local National Alms Agency (Baznas).

“Ramadan becomes the perfect moment for us. That is why we are touring cities to strengthen our ties with all of our stakeholders. And of course, this is to realize universal coverage of employment social security for all workers in Indonesia,” BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s director for human capital Abdur Rahman Irsyadi, said.
