Jakarta. Bottled water manufacturer Danone-AQUA recently revealed its way of preserving water resources to provide a quality product for its consumers, while also maintaining the balance in water use.

“Danone-AQUA first conducts integrated research with an expert team for at least a year. This is to learn the water characteristics, from a geological, hydrological, hydrogeological, hydrogeochemical, and microbiological standpoint,” Arif Mujahidin, the communications director at Danone Indonesia, said in a recent press statement.

“We also analyze the water balance to ensure sustainable production and environmental sustainability,” Arif said.

Danone-AQUA sources its water from carefully selected springs in Indonesia’s mountains.

“The water that AQUA uses comes from a deep layer of soil that is protected by an impermeable layer [confined aquifer] so that it is not in contact with the surface water, which people usually use for irrigation or daily needs such as bathing, washing, etc.,” Arif said.

In its journey, the water passes through various stones that would enrich it with natural minerals.

Danone-AQUA’s senior external relations for the West Java region Murtijo Utomo added: “At AQUA, the water that we use is always tested and monitored for quality and volume. All to make sure that we maintain the water quality and balance of nature.”

“Water is a source of renewable energy. That is why we need to maintain the balance in the water cycle, namely the process of taking and returning the water used,” Murtijo said.

To this end, Danone-AQUA has rolled out a number of initiatives in partnership with other stakeholders. For instance, Danone-AQUA to date has planted 2,526,816 trees and constructed 92,859 bio pore holes. The bottled water manufacturer has also built 2,315 infiltration galleries.

“We believe that by embracing a multi-stakeholder collaboration, we will be able to protect the abundant water resources in Indonesia,” Arif said.
