Jakarta. Nunukan District Military Command, also known as Kodim 0911, has teamed up with local public figure Haji Momo to hold a mass Covid-19 vaccination campaign in Sebatik Island, an island in North Kalimantan which is directly adjacent to Indonesia-Malaysia borders.

Located at Aztrada 88 Sports Center, the vaccination site aims to administer Covid-19 shots to 500 residents of the island. People aged 18 years and above from various professions lined up to get Sinovac’s Covid-19 vaccine at no cost.

According to Lt. Col. Czi Eko Pur Indriyanto of Kodim 0911,  the vaccination is to mitigate the surge in Covid-19 cases and spur economic recovery. Eko also applauded the public figure’s participation in the vaccination campaign.

“Public figures can set an example to encourage people to get the Covid-19 vaccine. We are thankful, as at first we only targeted to vaccinate 50 people, but today we can reach 500 people,” Eko wrote in a recent statement.

Eko encouraged religious leaders, as well as all elements in the society at large, to support the national vaccination campaign. “As instructed by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, we hope to ramp up the target for a more effective and efficient Covid-19 prevention,” Eko said.

The vaccination will take place in several stages to avoid crowding on-site. The mass campaign heaped praises from the local residents. Erman, a farmer from Sungai Nyamuk Village, said he was thankful for the vaccination facility since he had been worried about the rise in Covid-19 cases in his area.
