Local Herbal Supplements Rise in Popularity Amid Pandemic

AUGUST 13, 2021

Jakarta. Immune-boosting local herbal supplements are rising in popularity.

Indonesia is seeing more vaccination centers popping up across major cities. But even after getting the Covid-19 jab, one cannot simply let their guard down. They must still comply with the health protocols and maintain a healthy immune system.

The Covid-19 pandemic has prompted beauty giant Mustika Ratu to launch herbal supplement Herbamuno+. The supplement uses five herbs all originating from Indonesia  — namely small ginger, green chiretta, licorice, meniran leaves, and cashew nut leaves. It acts as an immunomodulator, and helps relieve fever, nausea, bloating, headache, as well as coughs, according to Mustika Ratu president director Bingar Egidius Situmorang.

“Imunomodulator herbal supplements can boost the immune system,” Egi said, when visiting the vaccination center at the University of Indonesia campus in Depok, not long ago.

Egi said the supplement is widely used across communities. Mustika Ratu is also providing Herbamuno+ for the health workers in the Wisma Haji Covid-19 Hospital in Pondok Gede, and the Army hospitals in Java island.

“As well as vaccination centers in Jakarta, Depok, Cirebon, Tangerang, Bandung, Semarang, Solo, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Malang, Bali, Makassar, Samarinda, Madura, Palembang, Medan, and other major cities,” Egidius said.

“Herbamuno+ is suitable for consumption during this pandemic. After getting vaccinated, it is advisable to consume Herbamuno+ as a supplement to boost immunity — be it for those who have gotten their vaccine or those who are still waiting for their turn," he added.

Mustika Ratu is working alongside the Health Ministry to host a vaccination clinic —complete with Herbamuno+ supplement— in a bid to speed up the vaccination drive in the Jakarta region. The vaccination post is open for residents who live around the company.

According to Mustika Ratu health division NSM Adi Sulaiman, Herbamuno+ illustrates the company's commitment to support the Covid-19 response. Many people are also consuming Herbamuno+ to boost their immune system.

“Herbamuno+ is among the 14 herbal medications currently receiving assistance from the National Food and Drug Monitoring Agency [BPOM] as an adjuvant for Covid-19 treatment. A preparation for a clinical test at the Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital is underway,” Adi said.

Herbamuno+ is halal-certified. The herbal supplement is available at an affordable price in Shopee, Tokopedia, Halodoc, and GrabHealth, as well as local convenience stores Alfamart and Indomaret.
