Jakarta. Mining giant Merdeka Copper Gold (IDX: MDKA) recently reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable and responsible mining as the company celebrated its 12th anniversary.

The company operates in gold, silver, copper, and nickel mining. According to a press release, MDKA has been increasingly focused on improving its compliance to sustainability principles since its establishment in 2012.

MDKA said that the company had contributed to build the country through responsible mining of essential minerals, focusing on sustainability and adopting the highest standards of good governance. This effort aligns with the larger goal of achieving national energy independence and resilience.

In expanding its business units and significant management potential in Indonesia, MDKA is currently transforming into promising future projects. Its success in building and operating mines in several locations across Indonesia serves as tangible proof.

MDKA has built a High Pressure Acid Leach (HPAL) nickel processing facility. This is part of the company's effort to support the government's strategy of domestically processing its minerals.

MDKA is also finalizing the Pani Gold Project in Gorontalo, which is expected to become one of the largest primary gold mines in Indonesia. The project is set to begin operations by end-2025.

The Tujuh Bukit Mine in Banyuwangi is also entirely powered by renewable energy that is supplied from the Kamojang Geothermal Power Plant in West Java.

The company has implemented a number of community empowerment programs. Some focus on targeted regional infrastructure development to empower local SMEs in mining areas. MDKA also makes significant contributions in education, culture, and health that benefit surrounding communities.

In response to global commodity price fluctuations, the company is also making strategic investments in several ongoing potential projects.

“This will have a significant impact on the surrounding communities and the company in the coming years. These projects include the Pani Gold Project in Gorontalo and the Tujuh Bukit Copper Project in Banyuwangi,” MDKA was quoted as saying in a press statement.

MDKA positions its suppliers as partners to grow together by establishing partnerships and developing the competencies of local suppliers to help boost their income and generate job opportunities for the local communities.

The company also sought to advance the mining industry while also remaining committed to sustainability-focused innovations. This aligns with the theme of Indonesia's 79th Mining and Energy Anniversary: “Energy and Minerals Realize a Advanced and Sustainable Indonesia.” This theme reflects the importance of taking advantage of Indonesia's minerals while making sure that sustainability practices remain in place.
