Jakarta. State-owned defense company Pindad introduced its anti-drone weapons Silent Paralyzing Weapon Series 1 (SPS–1) and the Maung MV3 Mobile Jammer vehicle at the new capital city Nusantara on Friday.

The launch of these weapons were also part of the Indonesian independence day ceremony celebrations. Pindad also supplied SPS-1 and Maung MV3 Mobile Jammer to help secure the event which saw the attendance of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and his successor Prabowo Subianto.

"This product is the first in the world to integrate soft kill weapons [anti-drone] and hard kill [firearms] and entirely uses local content in its development,” Pindad’s technology and development director Sigit P Santosa was quoted as saying in a recent press statement.

The company’s VP for innovations Prima Kharisma talked of the weapon’s development process and its integrated defense system.

"This product is a type of combination variant that has never been developed before in the world, you could say it is an original design from Indonesia whose development process for vehicles, weapons, and jammer components are integrated into one unified anti-drone defense system," said Prima.

SPS-1 is operated by 1 personnel. It is suitable for high mobility because it is attached to the weapon and runs on batteries so it does not depend on a static power system. SPS-1 is capable of neutralizing drone threats with 2 methods, the first is “soft kill” to disable the threatening drone by closing control access at a distance of 500 meters.

The second is “hard kills”, which are destructive or destroy drones at a distance of 150 meters. SPS-1 is designed to follow the latest technological developments and is the result of adjustments to user needs, according to Pindad.

The company designed the Maung MV3 Mobile Jammer as a mobile anti-drone system that can neutralize drone threats quickly and accurately. This vehicle is equipped with a drone jammer as a soft kill weapon and a 12.7 mm caliber SMB SM5 A1 weapon as a hard kill weapon.

With a jamming radius of 3 kilometers using the soft kill method and a destruction distance of up to 1.8 kilometers using the hard kill method, this vehicle provides reliable protection. It also comes with domestic technical and after-sales support. Equipped with a 4x4 drive, this vehicle is capable of operating in various types of terrain, both on-road and off-road.

Pindad is also partnering with Sapta Cakra Manunggal which boasts experience in manufacturing electronic defense products. Pindad also hopes that it can supply the Indonesian military and police force with the SPS–1 and the Maung MV3 Mobile Jammer vehicle.
