Tech Company Grab Helps With Vaccine Distribution in 53 Cities Across Indonesia

JUNE 18, 2021

Jakarta. Tech company Grab has distributed Covid-19 jabs to hundreds of thousands of people and driver-partners in 53 cities and regencies across Indonesia.

Since February, Grab has teamed up with the telemedicine app Good Doctor to set up vaccination centers across the archipelago. Both companies are also the government’s first private partners to assist the vaccine drive using technology.

“The pandemic encourages the private sector to help the vaccine distribution. We are proud to contribute to the acceleration of the national vaccination program with our technology and resources,” Grab Indonesia country managing director Neneng Goenadi said in Yogyakarta on Thursday.

Grab has also recently hit another milestone by launching a new vaccination center in Yogyakarta. Located at GOR Yogyakarta State University, the center opened its doors on June 14-17 for the first batch of vaccinations.

The new center aims to vaccinate 10,000 Yogyakartans, including disabled people, senior citizens, and public officers in the tourism and transportation sectors.  To this end, Grab has readied GrabGerak, a disabled-friendly transportation service.

“GrabGerak is ready to take the vaccine recipients with disabilities to the center. The drivers have also received training to serve those with disabilities,” Neneng said.

“We hope this initiative will encourage more people to receive their first vaccine,” Neneng said.

The vaccination center uses the telemedicine app GrabHealth and Good Doctor’s digital infrastructure for its pre-registration, vaccination schedule, and pre-screening processes.

Grab also teams up with the Yogyakarta provincial government for better efficiency.

In addition, Grab partners with bottled water company Danone Indonesia to keep everyone at the center hydrated. Disinfectant brand Dettol also becomes their official hygiene partner to keep the center virus-free.
