All Asian Games Venues Will Be Ready by End of July: Minister
Jakarta. All venues for the 2018 Asian Games will be ready by the end of July, well before the opening ceremony in Jakarta on Aug. 18, the Ministry of Public Works and Housing said on Sunday (22/07).
Most events will take place at the Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, and Jakabaring Sport City in Palembang, South Sumatra.
The government has contributed more than Rp 7.2 trillion ($495 million) for the renovation of existing sports venues and construction of new facilities, including an athlete's village in Jakarta, since 2016.
"The infrastructure, including sidewalks around venues built for the Asian Games, is now 99 percent complete," the ministry said in a statement.
"By July 31, all Asian Games infrastructure work will be completed," Public Works Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said.
This will be the second time the Asian Games will be hosted at the Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex.
The Indonesia Asian Games Organizing Committee (Inasgoc) recently also confirmed that preparations at all venues were on track.
