Jakarta. Flyweight boxer Valentinus Nahak, who was going to represent Indonesia during the 2018 Asian Games, succumbed to lymphatic cancer on Thursday (02/08).

Valentinus, 22, died at Sanglah Hospital in Denpasar, Bali.

His condition started to deteriorate in February, when after being selected by Indonesia's boxing association to participate in the Games, he lost a test fight with Thailand's Kritiphak Duangnut.

The silver medalist of the 2016 National Sports Week (PON) was diagnosed with lymphatic cancer in early June.

"[...] Indonesia has lost a great boxer, Valentinus Nahak, who died on Thursday at 7:35 p.m. at Sanglah Hospital in Bali. Rest in peace, Valen, your sporting spirit won't be forgotten," the Ministry of Sports said on its Twitter account @Kemenpora_RI.
