Jakarta. Indonesian men's doubles badminton player Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo has been awarded a cash bonus of Rp 250 million — $18,750 — by his club PB Djarum after his epic victory at All England.
Kevin and his doubles partner Marcus Fernaldi Gideon had already been given a bonus of the same amount by the Indonesian government.
Marcus so far has not received any bonus from his club PB Tangkas Jakarta.
Commenting on their different treatments, Kevin said, "I don't think the bonus from my club will affect my relationship with Marcus, on or off the court. He was paid more when he played for Jakarta in the last PON XIX. That was a good tournament for him."
Kevin and Marcus beat Chinese pair Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen in the All England final on March 12, the first time the they had won the title at badminton's oldest tournament. They are now the number one men's doubles pair in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) ranking, leapfrogging others from number five after their latest victory.
Kevin and Marcus are the second Indonesian men's doubles pair who manage to top the BWF ranking after Hendra Setiawan and Muhammad Ahsan in 2014.
