Indonesia's Sean Gelael Will Drive for Toro Rosso in Four FP1 Sessions
Jakarta. Indonesian Formula Two driver Sean Gelael will have four free practice sessions with Formula One team Toro Rosso at four grands prix.
In March, Sean was appointed Toro Rosso's test driver, thanks to which he could test an F1 car in Hungary and Bahrain. In November, he will also test drive in Abu Dhabi.
The newly announced free practice sessions will see the 20-year-old on duty in Singapore in September, Malaysia in October, the United States in late October, and Mexico, also in late October.
"During the tests in Bahrain and Budapest [Hungary], Sean performed very well, helping the team in a very professional way, with a mature approach to the complex task of providing engineers with useful feedback," team principal Franz Tost said on Toro Rosso's official website.
"Everyone within the team was impressed by his performance, his technical understanding and his commitment. Therefore, we are happy that he will be driving the FP1 sessions for us at these four grands prix. I am sure he will do an excellent and useful job for the team," he added.
"It is an honor to be driving in Formula One, starting in Singapore and Malaysia, two venues that are so close to my home country. ... This [free practice] will be different than the test drives. I'm very proud and this is also for Indonesia," Sean said in a statement on Monday (28/08).
Sean currently races with F2 team Pertamina Arden.
