NBA to Give Coaching Workshops in South Sumatra
Jakarta. The National Basketball Association will work with the South Sumatra administration to give coaching workshops to improve the skills of local basketball coaches and physical education teachers in the region on Monday (18/09) to Sept. 29, as part of the NBA's international community development program known as Jr. NBA.
The workshops will cater to more than 2,000 teachers, coaches and youth in South Sumatra and will focus on technical knowledge, endurance training and conditioning.
"The Jr. NBA program has had an impact on teachers, children and even parents in Indonesia who have benefited since 2014. We [hope to continue the program] as it is delivering value and [focuses on the message] that it is important to be active," Jim Wong, an NBA Asia associate vice president said.
"We support all activities that empower the Indonesian youth and we are also very pleased with the expansion of the Jr. NBA program to our region," South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin said.
"Jr. NBA is also useful to spot and develop young talent in basketball and also equip the teachers and coaches with updated coaching skills," he added.
"Plus, it now also helps to promote basketball ahead of the 18th Asian Games which will be held in Palembang, South Sumatra, in August 2018," he said.
By the 2016-2017 season, the Jr. NBA program has taught more than 18 million people across 53 countries.
