A Closer Look at GAC Aion's Factory: A Blueprint for Indonesia Expansion

Jakarta. Chinese electric car manufacturer GAC Aion is set to establish a factory in Indonesia, targeting an initial capacity of 100,000 units per year.
Ranked as the world's third-largest battery electric vehicle (BEV) manufacturer, GAC Aion aims to introduce its Aion Y Plus model to the Indonesian market, starting in July 2024.
The collaboration between car distributor Indomobil Energi Baru marks GAC Aion entry to Indonesia's automotive industry. The Jakarta Globe's sister publication, Beritasatu.com, recently witnessed the assembly process of GAC Aion electric vehicles in Guangzhou, China.
Managing Director of GAC Aion South East Asia, Ma Haiyang, assures that the quality standards of the planned Indonesian plant will match those of its main factory in Guangzhou.
The assembly plant in Indonesia will initially have a production capacity of around 100,000 units, with experts from GAC Aion's Chinese plants facilitating knowledge transfer.
Insight into GAC Aion's Guangzhou Factory
Construction of the GAC Aion factory in Guangzhou commenced in September 2017, spanning approximately 470,000 square meters. Currently, GAC Aion operates three assembly plants in China, with a new facility set to open in Thailand soon, each capable of producing up to 200,000 units annually.
Leveraging Internet of Things (IoT), big data, and customization, the Guangzhou assembly plant stands out as a world-class facility. Smart manufacturing imbues machines with human-like capabilities, facilitating data acquisition, analysis, assessment, and decision-making processes.
The facility prioritizes energy efficiency through smart micro-grids, photovoltaics, and other eco-friendly energy sources, complemented by electric energy storage systems.
The GAC Aion Smart Ecological Factory pioneers aluminum riveting and spot welding changeover technology. Moreover, it leads as the first domestic vehicle plant to integrate a global cloud data platform for production process analysis and decision-making, thereby significantly enhancing production efficiency and quality control capacity.
