Apple's iPhone 11 Series Available in Indonesia Starting Next Week
Jakarta. Apple's latest smartphones, the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro, will be available in Indonesia from Dec. 6 from authorized reseller Digimap stores across the country, marking the US-based smartphone maker's latest inroad into one of Asia's largest smartphone markets.
Digimap, a subsidiary of listed retailer Mitra Adiperkasa (MAP), currently has 22 retail outlets in major Indonesian cities Jakarta, Tangerang, Bekasi, Bandung, Depok, Surabaya, Medan and Denpasar.
The starting price of the highly anticipated iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro is Rp 12.9 million ($922), Digimap said in a statement.
Both the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro offer superior cameras compared to their predecessors, adding another string to the iPhone's bow to compete in Indonesia's high-end flagship smartphone market long dominated by South-Korean smartphone maker Samsung.
The iPhone 11 bears two rear cameras (wide and ultra-wide) while the iPhone Pro has three (wide, ultra-wide and telephoto). The 12-megapixel front camera is able to capture slow-motion videos down to 120 fps, what Apple calls a "slofie."
Another difference between the two is the size – iPhone 11 Pro has a 6.1-inch screen while the iPhone 11 has a 5.8-inch screen.
Chinese producers Oppo, Vivo, Realme and Xiaomi control almost three-quarters of Indonesia's smartphone market, where sales reached 8.8 million in the third quarter of this year, according to data from market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) Indonesia.
The Chinese brands, however, were only dominant in the low- and medium-tier segments, where budget smartphones costing less than $400 ruled.
For the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro, Digimap offers monthly payments with 0 percent interest, free payment for the first month with credit card purchase and a special trade-in deal for members of MAP's loyalty program, the Mapclub.
Digimap will also provide an "Experience Corners" for customers to try the phones' camera features hands-on, but they will only be available at the Digimap stores in Grand Indonesia and Pondok Indah Mall 2 in Jakarta and Tunjungan Plaza 4 in Surabaya.
