Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo is set to receive a visit from Microsoft's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Satya Nadella, at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday. The meeting will discuss digital transformation agendas for Indonesia.

"Microsoft's CEO is scheduled to meet with President Jokowi at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta at 08:30 a.m. Jakarta time," said Indonesia's Minister of Communication and Informatics, Budi Arie Setiadi on Monday.

Budi stated that digital transformation is essential for Indonesia to become a developed country. He emphasized the importance of the commitments resulting from the meeting since Indonesia also requires many breakthroughs in knowledge and technology.

"Our ability to adapt and innovate must also continue to be improved," he said.

Further details of the meeting, Budi Arie continued, would be conveyed to the public after the meeting concludes.

Previously, Budi Arie Setiadi stated that the global technology company Microsoft had prepared a significant investment to be implemented in Indonesia.

He mentioned that Microsoft's investment value for Indonesia would be around Rp 14 trillion ($862 million). This substantial investment will be distributed in various forms, one of which is for the development of digital talents.

Microsoft's investment plan for Indonesia has been marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Communication and Informatics Ministry and Microsoft in March 2024.

In the MoU, Microsoft committed to supporting the development of digital talents and strengthening government infrastructure and digitalization.

There is also cooperation to strengthen responsible artificial intelligence (AI) governance, enhance the implementation and practices of personal data protection (PDP), and collaborate in other areas.

This collaboration was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, Mira Tayyiba, and the President Director of Microsoft Indonesia, Dharma Simorangkir.

On April 17, President Jokowi had a meeting with Tim Cook, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Apple, at the State Palace in Jakarta. During the meeting, Cook informed Jokowi about Apple's recent inauguration of a developer academy in Bali, which adds to the success of three existing academies in Batam, Surabaya, and Tangerang. Additionally, President Jokowi encouraged Cook to explore the possibility of establishing a manufacturing facility in Indonesia.
