Vietnamese and Chinese Brands Make Their Mark at GIIAS 2024

Tangerang. The Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2024 will take place from July 18 to 28 at the ICE BSD City, featuring over 50 automotive brands. This year's event will welcome five new manufacturers, including one from Vietnam.

Among the debuting brands, Chinese automaker BAIC will introduce two new models: the BAIC BJ 40 Plus and BAIC X55 II. The BJ 40 Plus, an off-road SUV, boasts a 1,999 cc diesel engine with 159 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. The BAIC X55 II, another SUV, features a 1,498 cc gasoline engine producing 184 horsepower and 275 Nm of torque, equipped with a dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD is set to unveil the BYD M6, a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) powered by a 71.8 kWh battery, offering a range of up to 500 km on a single charge. The vehicle generates 204 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque, positioning it as an efficient and eco-friendly choice.

GAC AION, another Chinese electric car maker, will present the AION ES, an all-electric sedan with a 100 kWh battery providing 135 horsepower and 225 Nm of torque. Priced below Rp 400 million, the AION ES aims to capture the growing market for affordable electric vehicles in Indonesia.

Jetour, a subsidiary of China's Cherry, will introduce the Jetour Dashing, a five-seater featuring a 1,498 cc gasoline engine that delivers 154 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. The model will be locally assembled to reduce production costs and enhance affordability for Indonesian consumers.

Vietnamese manufacturer Vinfast will showcase two models tailored for the Indonesian market: the VF 5 and VF e34. The VF 5 features a 37 kWh battery, generating 134 horsepower and offering a range of 260 km, priced around Rp 310 million. The VF e34, equipped with a 41 kWh battery, produces 147 horsepower with a range of 318 km, expected to retail at approximately Rp 409 million.
