Jakarta. The annual Batam International Open Piano Competition 2017, held in Batam, Riau Islands, officially ended on Sunday (22/10).
The competition was joined by pianists from across Indonesia and foreign musicians from Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and China.
According to Eleonora Aprilita, head of the competition's organizing committee, the event aimed to provide a platform for young pianists to showcase their talents.
Esthy Reko Astuti, tourism development deputy at the Ministry of Tourism, said the music sector is included in the ministry's premium market, as it has a strong appeal both locally and internationally.
"We will expand the program to be developed in other regions of Indonesia as well," Esthy said.
Batam contributes 20 percent of foreign arrivals to Indonesia, and is third after Bali with 40 percent and Jakarta with 30 percent.
