Jakarta. Budget airline Citilink Indonesia, subsidiary of flag carrier Garuda Indonesia, will operate additional flights on the Jakarta-Banda Aceh route to accommodate the participants of Sail Sabang 2017, the company said in a statement on Wednesday (22/11)
Sail Sabang 2017 will be held in Aceh from Nov. 28 to Dec. 5. The event will be the ninth series of Sail Indonesia, which begun in Bunaken, North Sulawesi, in 2009.
"Citilink Indonesia prepares extra flights from Jakarta to Banda Aceh to serve participants and tourists who want to attend the international-scale event," Citilink Indonesia corporate communications vice president Benny Butarbutar said.
The airline will operate two additional daily flights on the 180-seat Airbus A320 from Jakarta to Banda Aceh, with transit in Medan, North Sumatra.
"By providing extra flights, we hope to bring more participants to Sail Sabang 2017," Benny said, adding that more participants and tourists will positively contribute to the local economy.
Indonesia expects to receive 20 million tourists by 2020.
Last year, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo launched 10 prioritized tourism destinations, or the so-called 10 New Balis, which are Lake Toba in North Sumatra, Borobudur in Central Java, Jakarta's Thousand Islands, Tanjung Kelayang in Bangka Belitung, Tanjung Lesung in Banten, Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara, Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park in East Java, Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara, Wakatobi in Southeast Sulawesi and Morotai in North Maluku.
