Jakarta. Tour packages on offer to the Riau Islands have met with a positive response, the Ministry of Tourism said in a statement on Saturday (21/10).
More than 10,500 packages were sold, mostly to prospective tourists from neighboring Singapore and Malaysia.
"We will keep promoting these tour packages in Singapore and Malaysia," said Rizki Handayani, assistant deputy for Southeast Asia market development at the ministry.
He said 200 tour packages were sold within three days during a recent sales mission in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
The packages, launched in August, are a joint effort by more than 60 tourism industry players in Batam, Bintan and Tanjung Pinang in Riau Islands Province.
There are currently 250 types of tours, including leisure, golf and spa tours, but the ministry plans to expand this to appeal to more tourists.
