Jakarta. Lion Air opened a new Jakarta-Malang route from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to Abdul Rachman Saleh Airport on Wednesday (29/11).

Lion Air Group spokesman Ramaditya Handoko said the airline will use Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft on the Jakarta-Malang route. They have a capacity to carry 189 passengers.

"Jakarta-Malang flights will depart at 06.15 and 10.40 and Malang-Jakarta flights at 08.25 and 12.45," Ramaditya said.

The new route adds more alternative to reach the city from Jakarta, to gain more local tourists. The city's leading tourism destination is Mount Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park.

Ramaditya is optimistic that Lion Air can stimulate the economic growth in Malang, which has become known as city of tourism, shopping and education.
