Lombok Implements Halal Tourism Concept
Jakarta. Tourism Minister Arief Yahya urged Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara to keep distinguishing itself from Bali by implementing a halal tourism concept, a statement by the ministry said on Saturday (21/10).
The target market will be countries with a high number of Muslims, such as Malaysia and countries in the Middle East.
"In branding, Lombok has earned three awards at the World Halal Tourism Award 2015 and won 12 awards in 2016,” Arief said.
In development, the ministry has revitalized the Islamic Center in Mataram by equipping lighting to follow the design of the Nabawi Mosque in Medina, Saudi Arabia.
According to Lalu Faozal, head of West Nusa Tenggara Tourism Agency, the efforts done by the ministry has resulted in resort occupancy of 86 percent.
