Lombok to Host Gran Fondo New York International Cycling Race
Jakarta. The Indonesian leg of the Gran Fondo New York international cycling competition is set to take place in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on Sunday (03/08).
"We didn't need a long time to convince GFNY that Lombok is going to be a perfect place to hold it; only two months. With its captivating beauty, we believe Lombok will give a memorable impression to the participants," GFNY Indonesia promoter Axel Moeller said in a statement on Thursday (31/08).
The competition consists of an 80-kilometer route and a 181-km track, with each participant receiving timing chip to record their time.
The race will start in northern part of Senggigi before continuing to Sekotong Bawah via the provincial capital, Mataram.
Participants will then continue to Nambung – the most challenging area – which has a 60-degree climb.
Batu Jangkih is the next destination where cyclists can have lunch at the Batu Jai area.
The race will continue north towards Pusuk Pass before returning to Senggigi where they will cross the finish line at the Santosa Resort.
The 181-km track is expected to take around 10 hours to complete.
The GFNY racing series is taking place between mid-2017 and early 2018 in several parts of the world, including Brazil, Germany, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay, Costa Rica, Israel and Malaysia.
The final is slated for New York on May 20 next year.
