Jakarta. Transportation operator Majestic Fast Ferry launched a new ferry between Singapore and Batam, Riau Islands province, on Thursday (08/06).
The ferry, MV Majestic Dream, will serve the Singapore-Batam and Singapore-Tanjung Pinang routes, making it easier for people living in the city-state to visit the island.
"This is our contribution to make it easier for tourists to visit. It just so happens that we are the only operator working with the Indonesian government to increase foreign tourism to the country," said Victor, Majestic Fast Ferry Batam head of promotions.
MV Majestic Dream was designed by an Australian company and built by Indonesia's Cahaya Samudra Shipyard in Batam. The 33-meter-long vessel has all the qualities and comforts associated with those built by foreign shipbuilders.
The ferryboat is equipped with leather chairs, seating 317 passengers, while it also has two VIP rooms with four seats each.
"The rooms are specially for business travelers," Victor said.
MV Majestic Dream is just one of several vessels that were recently added to the company's fleet. Victor said it launched three in 2016, known as Majestic 7, Majestic 8 and Majestic 9.
"By continuously introducing new vessels and regenerating our fleet, Majestic Fast Ferry expects to encourage more foreign tourists to visit Indonesia," Victor said.
Ferry tickets are available at Alfamart and Indomaret minimarkets in Batam and other parts of Indonesia.
"It is also not expensive. From Batam Center to Harbor Front Center Singapore will only cost Rp 320,000 ($25). Trips between Batam Center and Tanah Merah in Singapore will cost the same, while the price for the trip between Sekupang and Harbor Front Center in Singapore will cost Rp 280,000, all of which are return fares," he said.
