Participants in Wonderful Sail 2 Indonesia Rally Explore Derawan Islands
Jakarta. Yachters participating in the Wonderful Sail 2 Indonesia rally visited the Derawan Archipelago in Berau district, East Kalimantan, on Wednesday (30/09).
"Some of the yachters told me the Derawan Islands are beautiful and have clean beaches and lots of fish. They would like to visit Indonesia again soon," Indroyono Soesilo, the head of maritime tourism development at the Ministry of Tourism, said in a statement on Sunday.
The archipelago is made up of Derawan, Sangalaki, Kakaban and Maratua islands.
Tourists have to travel by boat from Tarakan or Balikpapan to Derawan Island, from where they can reach the other three islands.
There is an unusual feature at Kakaban Island, known as Jellyfish Lake, which is one of two places in the world where visitors can swim with stingless jellyfish. The other is at Eil Malk Island in Palau in the western Pacific Ocean.
Participants in the Wonderful Sail 2 Indonesia rally are currently sailing through the Indonesian archipelago before finishing in Sabang, Aceh, on Nov. 28.
